On the day that Rhonda and Chris married, a day that by all rights should have been about them and their love story, they chose instead to celebrate everyone who gathered with them. Just after the couple said their wedding vows, they invited their guests to stand with them and renew their own vows. The ceremony ended with each “bride” throwing a cone of lavender sending wishes of prosperity to all. I think this act speaks clearly to the type of people Chris and Rhonda are — kind and caring individuals who dearly love their friends and family.

Chris and Rhonda’s wedding included several other thoughtful, personal touches that made their day memorable. Chris arrived to the ceremony at Stoney’s Broomes Island in the couple’s boat, while Rhonda came in a 1967 Ford F-100, which she gave to Chris as an engagement present. And later in the evening, everyone danced to music from two different bands to which Chris belonged. Even Rhonda’s daughter and son played with the band for an unforgettable night of entertainment!

Many talented vendors contributed to this day including: Stoney’s Broomes Island and Maryland Country Caterers, venue and catering; Jason Evans (the couple’s son-in-law), lighting and production; Georgetown Cupcake, cupcakes; Natural Looks by Victoria, make up; Amore Hair Salon and Spa, hair; Christy Hyatt, family friend, flowers; and JILL CHRISTINE DESIGN & PHOTOGRAPHY, photography. Many friends and family members contributed to the band. The Jokers was a reunion band that Chris was a part of, and his current band, Three Days of Rain, also played! They currently books events in Baltimore, Annapolis and Southern Maryland and you should definitely check them out!

As a creative, I want my work to stand the test of time — the photographs I take today to be described as classic and timeless 50 years from now. I never want my work to be cast aside as trendy or passé. So I am incredibly honored to have one of my weddings featured on The Black Tie Bride today! This blog is dedicated to showcasing work that is classic, iconic and enduring because as they say “classic never goes out of style.” I’d like to thank Kate and Matt whose elegant wedding made this feature possible!

When it comes to photographing dogs, they are a lot like children, specifically toddlers. Both can be wildly unpredictable, full of energy and uninterested in posing for the camera. But they’ll give you moments of cooperation and plenty of cuteness, and sometimes that’s all you need! Here are a few favorites from one family that wouldn’t be complete without their brood of pups!

This week Tuesday’s Tip is coming to you on Thursday!

I love photographing the bride and groom’s preparation. You can just feel the excitement in the air and that level of anticipation always produces genuine emotions, which in turn produces wonderful photographs.

Choosing a Getting Ready Location on Your Wedding Day

Your choice of location can enhance these photos greatly. So what makes for a great getting ready location on your wedding day?

  1. Natural light.  Choose a spot with lots of windows or doors that can be opened to let in natural light. Other light sources can create weird color casts on your photos. Natural light is a clean light source that will provide the most flattering results.
  2. Simple decor.  Lots of decorations and a mix of colors and patterns can all take attention away from the people being photographed. Simple decor with plain walls will keep the attention on you and those being photographed.
  3. Avoiding clutter. Again, clutter can take the focus off the people in the picture. For your photos to have a classic, timeless appeal, they should be free of water bottles, food containers, bags, etc. (Tip: Designate one area in the room for family and wedding party members to place these items.)
  4. Proximity to the ceremony. This one doesn’t have anything to do with the look of the pictures, but for your convenience, choose a location as close to your ceremony site as possible. This just minimizes the chance that traffic or other mishaps could delay your arrival.
