Greenwell Foundation, located in St. Mary’s County within Greenwell State Park, is a beautiful venue for weddings. It’s home to lovely gardens, grassy fields, horses, a historic manor house and views of the Patuxent River!

And if that’s not enough, they’ve recently added a unique option to their wedding day packages — the Greenwell Porch Rentals. They’ve packed the porch to the manor house with decoration items ranging from vintage, to rustic, to fun and whimsical. And for only $200, they’ll hand you the key to the porch and access to all of the decor items for your wedding including the ones below!

Jen & Justin: A Woodlawn Farm Anniversary Session

A few weeks ago, I worked with several amazing vendors including Paul Kwak Productions, Woodlawn Farm, and Blushing Blooms Floral Design, to create an About Me video for my web site.

Jen and Justin were gracious enough to help as well. This couple is thoughtful, kind, and beautiful, I might add! But they’re also a wonderful example of marriage. And it just so happens that they celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this September, which made them the perfect choice for this little project. You’ll see more of these two and our sweet family we featured on the blog last week in the video coming soon! But for now, here are some of my favorite still shots. Pardon the overshare, but it was so hard to narrow these down!

The M Family: A Woodlawn Farm Maternity Session

“Sugar and spice and everything nice. That’s what little girls are made of.”

More tea parties, hair bows and baby dolls are on the horizon for this family. Big sister Lily will soon have a little sister to share in her childhood adventures. And although the balance in the house will tip even more toward the side of the girls, something tells me this Daddy won’t mind being surrounded by so many beautiful ladies!

For Brides: A Lighting Plan

Like many photographers, I love natural light. And when you put me in a dimly lit cathedral, I get a little uneasy. While beautiful, the lighting conditions are less than ideal — no window light, no low white ceilings to bounce the flash off of and multiple light sources with which to contend. This is where my off camera lighting set up comes into play. In just a few minutes, I’m able to create my own beautiful, clean studio lighting on the spot! In the examples below, the off camera lighting eliminated the purple color casts that were otherwise appearing and saved me from having to point my flash directly at the couple while shooting, which doesn’t create the most flattering light.

If you’re planning a wedding, be sure to discuss all of the locations you’ll visit on your wedding day with your photographer so that they can create a lighting plan for those that don’t include natural light.

Jenny & Shane: A Historic St. Mary’s Wedding

I often think of a wedding in terms of the beautiful things I see — a breathtaking bride, hugs exchanged between loved ones, or kisses stolen on the dance floor when no one is looking. But Jenny and Shane’s wedding, while filled with an abundance of beauty, is one I will always remember for the sounds I could hear. Sweet laughter filled the air at every turn throughout the day. It was the kind of laughter that comes straight from the heart and can’t help but be contagious. The kind of laughter that signifies absolute joy. It would be wrong if I failed to mention that part of the reason for all of this laughter was due to Shane’s childhood friend Josh, who officiated the ceremony. His personal stories about the couple and how they met, along with a little rap he threw in just for fun, generated volumes of laughter. And in some cases this led to tears — happy tears of course. Just ask Jenny!
