One of the aspects I love most about photographing weddings are the relationships that are formed. My clients are amazing and quite often I leave a wedding feeling like a member of the family. Not only do they let me play a role in their wedding day, they share their lives and their loved ones with me. It’s an incredible honor, which is why I am constantly focused on providing the best client experience possible. From the first email inquiry to the completion of the album, a positive client experience is always a priority.

The business relationship between a photographer and a client can last up to two years from the initial meeting to the delivery of the final products. I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to work with someone for two years, I want someone who has my best interest at heart, who maintains an open line of communication and who serves as a resource for all things wedding related. This is what I strive to do for each of my clients. Because to me they’re so much more than clients and deserve nothing less!

If you’re a former, current or prospective client, I’d love to hear from you! Please email me your thoughts, suggestions and feedback so I can continue to make your experience better!

Each relationship begins with a Welcome Packet like the one pictured below. This packet includes wedding day tips, a planning timeline, advice for engagement sessions and so much more! These materials recently got an update with some fresh new faces!

Baby Max is 6 months old! As we were leaving his check up today, it occurred to me that I haven’t shared any pictures of him since he was born this past February. And he’s changed a lot since then! We are so blessed to have this beautiful, happy boy in our lives. He’s easy going, incredibly sweet and undeniably related to his brother when it comes to looks!

Likes: Ben and Kate (of course!), his family including his adoring cousins, having his diaper changed, his sleep sack, sucking his thumb, his crib mobile, the song Old MacDonald, Mum Mums, playing with empty water bottles and being held

Dislikes: The bottle (he really is such a happy baby that is was hard to think of anything for this category!)

Last week I shared with you the reasons why I think albums are important. In keeping with this theme of printing and enjoying your images, today, I thought I’d talk about deep matte prints. This is my favorite way to display photographs outside of an album.

What are deep matte prints?

Deep matte paper is a non-reflective, or lusterless, paper known for showcasing bright whites and for providing an elegant color range. It has a smooth texture and is soft to the touch.

Why do I love deep matte prints?

Deep matte prints display light images, skin tones and black and white images beautifully. Images also appear extremely crisp on deep matte paper, moreso than on other types of paper. Tact sharp photos are a must for me and having a paper that accentuates this quality is great!

If you’re interested in having images printed on deep matte paper, I would encourage you to check with your photographer to see if they can order them for you. Your photographer will most likely have calibrated their monitor to their printing lab to produce the best results. While you can print your photos elsewhere, there may be slight or even great changes in the color and brightness of your photos from what was intended.

I’m sure we all know someone who has shoeboxes of photographs tucked away in a closet from the days of film. Pictures that were printed, but never quite made their way into an album. (I’m guilty of this myself!) These physical shoeboxes have turned into digital ones – file folders stashed on our computers where images go and are often forgotten.

When I had my first baby, I knew I needed a new system – one that would better preserve our photographs in a format we would actually use. After all, we captured these moments so that we could relive the joy and excitement of them over and over again. So that we would remember the small details of day to day life that seems to go all too fast with children. And to be honest, once these photographs were stashed in their shoeboxes, that’s exactly where they stayed.

Since that time, I’ve printed a family photo album every year. My kids love to pull them out and look through them. They ask questions. I tell stories. And we recall memories that might have otherwise faded over time. These albums are our family heirlooms. My kids will continue to look at them as they grow up, and one day they will show them to their children. And for me, that’s worth the time and cost that it takes to create them.

Aside from the sentimental reasons to create a wedding or family album, there are a few practical reasons to create these as well.

  1. Albums will stand the test of time. Technology is always changing. Since I became a photographer more than 11 years ago, I have given clients prints made from film, and shared image files with clients on CDs, DVDs, and now flash drives. I’m not sure what the future holds, but if 20, or even 10, years from now these formats are no longer available, accessing your pictures may be difficult and require you to hire someone to convert them onto the latest media format. The albums I create are made from archival materials that will last regardless of the latest technology development.
  2. For weddings and other life events you have photographed, you may receive up to 1000 images from your day. That’s a lot of photos to click through. And while each photo may have captured a moment of your day, the album narrates these moments of the day as a story with a beginning, middle and end. In my opinion, this is the best way to relive the emotions and events of the day.
